If you didn’t already know, last night the 8-seed L.A. Kings eliminated the 3-seed Phoenix Coyotes in just 5 games with a 4-3 overtime win. If you haven’t been following the playoffs that closely the Kings knocked off the 1-seed and President Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks in the first round in 5 games and then swept the 2-seed St. Louis Blues in the second round. To recap, in 14 playoff games the Kings have lost only 2 games.

Now the Kings get a nice break to rest before they face the winner of the New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers series for the Stanley Cup.

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick, captain Dustin Brown and center Anze Kopitar have had the biggest impact on the Kings surprising run to the Stanley Cup final. Quick has a 1.54 goals against average and .946 save percentage; both of those are the best among playoff goaltenders. He also has 2 shutouts. Brown is tied with Kopitar for the highest plus-minus rating among playoff skaters at +13. The Kings captain has 16 points in the postseason and trails only Claude Giroux by one point for the playoff lead. Kopitar is right behind Brown with 15 points. Both Brown and Kopitar have 9 assists and have 6 and 7 goals respectively.

While Brown has had a big postseason, it's not without some controversy. Last night he had a nasty hit on Coyotes defenseman Michal Rozsival that left the Coyotes irate at the end of the game. There was no penalty called on the hit and it looks like it won't be reviewed by Brendan Shanahan.
This wasn't Brown's first questionable hit of the postseason. Check out this one from the Kings second round series against the St. Louis Blues. No penalty was called on this play.
It will be interesting to see if Brown will have any questionable hits in the Stanley Cup final and, if so, how they will be handled given his play so far this postseason.

The Kings have put together an incredible playoff run and it will be hard to pick against them regardless of whether they face the Rangers or Devils in the Stanley Cup final. While we wait for their opponent, enjoy this mildly amusing Kings ad I found.
